Ransomville Speedway Karting Profile: Austin Nigh

This go kart competitor has to come from a different country to race at the Little R every Thursday night! Coming from Welland Ontario Canada, Austin Nigh can’t wait to come back and turn laps for the 2020 racing season. This 15 year old plans to continue running in the Senior Lites Division and “win a couple races” this upcoming season. Nigh says that there is “much more competition” at the Little R compared to Canada race tracks. He really likes that there is a greater go kart count for each class compared to back home and enjoys how organized Thursday nights are. Having friends and family racing for a long time, Nigh got the opportunity to take a spin at a private track and “it took off from there”. Nigh and his team would like to thank Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre, Niagara Therapeutic Massage, Liuna Local 837, Lizard King and Reptile Supplies, Finish Line Niagara, and Great Lakes for their generous support for the upcoming 2020 racing season. Other than his sponsors, Nigh would like to thank his entire family and all of his friends who have lended a hand throughout his racing journey thus far.

Q&A with Austin Nigh:

How did you pick your racing number?

“I used to play hockey and my number was always 12 because that was my dad's number but one year 12 wasn’t available and 19 was so I picked it and it’s stuck ever since.”

As a Canadian racer, do you face any challenges racing in the states?

“It was definitely hard at first because the track at Ransomville is very different from the one I raced at in Canada. Also there is much more competition and way more karts in the classes.”

What is something you do as a race day tradition?

“I always putter in the garage getting the last few things done and loading up the trailer. I usually spend most of the day in the garage.”

What is the first thing you look forward to after your feature is over?

“I look forward to sitting down and talking the race over with my parents.”
