Mike Bonesky Memorial Paying $2,500 to Win for DIRTcar Sportsman

RANSOMVILLE, NY (July 30, 2024) The 4th annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series will be one of the highest paying DIRTcar Sportsman races in the region, paying $2,500 to win. The lucrative race also includes other contingencies and a lap sponsorship program. The race will take place on Tuesday, August 20 as part of the Ron Martin Summer Nationals for the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series.

So far, close to $1,300 in bonus money will be handed out to the DIRTcar Sportsman teams. Contingency awards include qualifying heat race wins, hard charger, longest tow, and more. There is also a lap sponsorship program, with several laps paying $50 or more. The Bonesky family have once again raised funds to make this race a very lucrative event, projected to bring drivers in from throughout the Northeast.

Mike Bonesky lived and breathed racing. He raced in the Bomber division at Ransomville Speedway in the early 1980s. After being behind the wheel, Bonesky had a pen, paper, and eventual computer with him as he was a columnist and writer in both the Gater Racing News and Area Auto Racing News. He also spent time handling the Public Relations duties for the indoor TQ Midget races at the Niagara Falls Convention Center as well as Holland International Speedway. Most recently, Bonesky was a member of Ryan Susice’s pit crew and spent time helping his grandson Jackson’s go-kart efforts for Thursday nights at “The Little R”. Bonesky was an avid racing fan in general, as he had traveled to over 100 different tracks throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Bonesky passed away unexpectedly in December of 2020. He was a graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and served in the United States Army.

The previous three editions of the Mike Bonesky Memorial have produced two different winners. In 2021, Scott Kerwin battled his way to the win. Brett Senek picked up the win last season, as well as winning the event in 2022. It will be round three of the Championship Series for the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series, and the 38th All-Time Series appearance at the Big R.

In Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series competition at Ransomville, there have been 23 different winners in 37 races. Brett Senek and Cody McPherson each have three Series wins to lead all active drivers.
