Friday, August
29, 2008 – Ransomville, NY – A total of seventy-five
cars signed in for competition last Friday night-the
nineteenth consecutive event for the Western NY oval.
The humid conditions provided for a fast and racey track
surface. A packed grandstands witnessed the 2008
champions being crowned aboard the open wheel divisions.
Todd
Burley of Spencerport, NY captured his fourth win of the
season aboard the Mighty Taco Modified fifty lap feature
main. Burley took the lead away from Bob Broomfield on
lap eight and quickly distanced himself from the
remainder of the field. Pete Bicknell, Robbie Krull,
Chad Brachmann, and Jeff McGinnis rounded out the top
five.

The
title run couldn’t have been scripted any better as the
2008 Mighty Taco Modified title came down to the final
night with just 10 points separating the top three of
Bicknell, Todd Burley, and Scott Kerwin. Burley needed a
win to have any hope of notching the 2008 crown while
Bicknell needed a second place finish or better to hang
onto the points lead. Burley took the top spot on lap
eight and quickly distanced himself from the remainder
of the field while Bicknell worked his way through
traffic. Bicknell advanced to second on lap thirty-five
and that was all it took to secure Bicknell as the 2008
Mighty Taco Modified titlist.
Twenty
one 358 Modifieds took the green for the season ending
fifty lap main.

James
Michael Friesen of St. Catharines, Ontario took top
honors for the fourth time in 2008 last Friday night
aboard the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman main. Friesen
also notched the points title-the first of his career.
Friesen joined his grandfather Stan Friesen on the
championship list. Friesen came into the night some 23
markers in front of defending champion Don Spatorico.
Friesen needed a tenth place finish to secure the title
and did all of that and more as he dominated the
twenty-five lap main. Friesen took the lead away from
Derek Smith on lap five and never looked back aboard his
Blue Moon Potatoes sponsored number 52. Nathan Reynolds
enjoyed his best finish of the second in second followed
by Justin Sharp, Jesse Cotriss, and Ryan Susice rounded
out the top five.

Dave
Conant of Lockport, NY captured his fourth win of the
season aboard the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock division.
Conant took the lead away from Jon Richael on lap eleven
and maintained it the final four circuits. Richael,
Charles Harvey, Wayne Close, and Jaren Israel rounded
out the top five.

Ricky
Washburn of Ransomville, NY captured his second win of
the season aboard the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock
division. Washburn took the lead away from Webb
Nashwinter on lap eleven aboard the second fifteen lap
main and held it the remaining four circuits. Brandon
Sherwood, Stuart Kumm, Nashwinter, and Chad Livermore
rounded out the top five. On lap two, disaster struck
for current points’ leader Chris Burek. Contact on the
back stretch left Burek hard into the guardrail. Burek
was done for the night bunching up the points with just
one week remaining.
