RICKY WASHBURN WINS STREETSTOCK MID-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP; JAMES FRIESEN, JIM STONE, AND EUGENE WASHBURN WIN AT RANSOMVILLE

Ransomville, NY – Friday, July 04, 2008 – Back to back nights of racing took place last weekend at the big R.  A total of two hundred and one cars entered and over 3,000 fans packed the grandstands. The 2008 season has been one of the most successful ones to date at the ½ mile oval as the last nine weeks of racing have been completed.

Ricky Washburn took top honors aboard the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock Mid-Season Championship event. Although Washburn led the entire distance-the win was anything but easy as Washburn withstood heavy pressure by cousin Kenny Washburn and Dave Conant in the final laps. Conant came home in second followed by Kenny, Mike Childrose, and Randy Zimmerman.

WOW WOW WOW-the only way to describe the closing laps as you could have put a blanket over the top five cars of Ricky Washburn, Close, Kenny Washburn,  Conant, and Jaren Israel. Contact on the backstretch resulted in Israel and Close spinning on lap forty-seven setting up a three lap dash to the cash. A total of twenty-five cars started the fifty lap main, thirty-two entered.

James Michael Friesen captured his third win of the season aboard the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman division. Friesen took the lead away from James Henry on lap seven of the twenty-five lap main and was never seriously challenged after that point. After a dismal finish the night prior-Friesen rebounded nicely aboard his Blue Moon Potatoes sponsored #52. Henry, Jipp Ortiz, Steve Miller, and Ricky Newton rounded out the top five.

Jim Stone of Ransomville, NY topped the field aboard the Bobcat of Buffalo Firehall Enduro Series. Stone took the lead away from Mark Brown on a lap nine restart and held it the remaining distance enroute to his second win of the season. Brown came home in second followed by Jamie O’Donnell. A scarry moment and coincidentally a first happened on lap nine as Lori Brown went over the guardrail and into the pond. Lori was ok.

Derek Wagner won the boat race by default as he was the only one with a boat remaining after lap five. There were a total of six boat/car entries in the inaugural event. Wagner won $500 for his efforts.

Eugene Washburn of Ransomville, NY captured the win in the 4/6 cylinder enduro. A total of thirty-three cars entered the event.
