RANSOMVILLE, NY - Night one of the two night King of the Hill Weekend saw Don Spatorico of Ransomville, NY win the 30 lap Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Open.
Spatorico took the lead early in the event and beat Jesse Cotriss to the finish line. Third place went to Luke Carleton of St. Catharines, Ontario. Rounding out the top five was Steve Miller of Burt, NY and Derek Smith of Ransomville, NY. A total of 20 Sportsman competitors signed in at the Ransomville Speedway pit gate.
In the first 15 lap Kipo Chevrolet Street Stock feature, it was Patrick Dell taking the win after a race long battle with Brian Lonneville. Dell led the race from the initial green flag. Third place went to Brandon Sherwood followed by Charles Harvey and Dave Conant Jr.
In the second 15 lap feature, Kirk Sherwood became the 20th different driver to win a Street Stock feature at Ransomville Speedway in 2009. Kenny Washburn put plenty of pressure on Sherwood but had to settle for second. Third place went to 2009 Ransomville Speedway Street Stock champion Derrick Borkenhagen while fourth was Don Rappleyea and fifth belonged to Ricky Washburn Jr. A total of 28 Street Stocks were in attendance as the two events were a preliminary for last Saturday night's King of the Hill 100 paying $1000 to the winner.
In the Flexcare Four Banger Class, Derek Wagner was the winner with Daryl Haag finishing second. Third was Pete Cocco while Eugene Washburn finished fourth. Fifth place went to Jamie Woods. Nineteen Four-Banger competitors was the largest number for the division in 2009. It's in the first year as a division at Ransomville Speedway.
The first of two 15 lap New York Modified Midget feature events saw former DIRTcar Modified competitor Darryl Ruggles run to victory. Second was Harrisburg, PA racer Ryan Greth. Third was Jim Radney followed by Jimmy Etue and Zack Bowman.
In the second feature, Ryan Greth took the victory. Second was Alysha Ruggles while her dad Darryl Ruggles was third. Jimmy Etue and Zach Morgan finished fourth and fifth, respectively. A total of 20 New York Modified Midgets. The first NYMM feature was rescheduled from Friday, May 23rd.
