BURLEY, SPATORICO, GREENAWALT, BUREK,
AND ODONNELLTAKE WINS AT
RANSOMVILLE; DERRICK BORKENHAGEN
CROWNED 2009 STREETSTOCK CHAMPION
Ransomville, NY – Friday, September 11, 2009 – Some ninety-seven cars filed into the pit area last Friday night to do battle amongst the four divisions including the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series. Despite chilly temperatures – a great crowd was on hand to witness great side by side racing action.
Todd Burley of Spencerport, NY put an exclamation point on his 2009 Ransomville title as he collected his fifth win of the season aboard the Mighty Taco Modified division. An open twenty lap - $10 00 to win event was slated for last Friday night extending the Modified season by one. Burley used a high-low switch on lap twelve to take over the top spot but it was Robbie Krull who challenged back on the front stretch to regain the lead. Burley went to the top once again on lap fifteen to take the top spot once again. Burley pulled away from Krull and collected the win. Krull, Ricky Richner, Justin Sharp, and Bob Broomfield rounded out the top five.
Don Spatorico pulled a slide job on Greg Panunte on lap forty-four to take the lead aboard the fifty lap DIRTcar Sportsman main. Panunte had led since lap eighteen when he took the top spot away from 2009 track champion Ryan Susice. Spatorico would lead the most important lap and take home the $1000 check aboard his #5 machine. Panunte came home in second followed by
Susice took the lead at the drop of the green and held a large advantage though lap twelve. Panunte challenged Susice on lap eighteen taking over the top spot. One circuit later Kevin Ridley slipped high in turn four resulting in disaster for the Canandaigua Speedway regular. Ridley caught the edge of the turn four guardrail which launched him towards the frontstretch fence. Ridley barrel rolled at least four times prior to coming to rest in the moat. While Ridley walked away – this racer suffered terminal damage.
Panunte showed the fast way around followed by Spatorico who advanced to second. Spatorico challenged Panunte on lap forty-four and used a slide job coming off turn four to take over the point position. Spatorico led the field to the checkered followed by Panunte, Jesse Cotriss, Derek Smith, and a tie for fifth between Jipp Ortiz and Tyler MacPherson.
Mike Greenawalt became the twentieth different winner aboard the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock division. Greenawalt took the lead at the drop of the green and maintained it through the entire fifteen laps. Scott Krull, Webb Nashwinter, Derrick Borkenhagen, and Jeremy Stahl rounded out the top five. Borkenhagen’s fourth place finish was enough to earn him the 2009 track title. It is Derrick’s first track title at Ransomville.
Chris Burek to ok control at the drop of the green aboard the second fifteen lap Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock main and never looked back as he collected his second win of the season. Burek held off persistent challenges by Ricky Washburn who came home in second. Charles Harvey, Donald Rappleyea, and Brian Lonneville rounded out the top five.
Jamie O'Donnell took top honors aboard the Bobcat of Buffalo Firehall Enduro Series. Mark Btown, Todd Brunning, Ryan Stephenson, Jonathon Stoelting, Lori Brown, Hoyt Desso, James Pringle, AJ FlyWheel, Gary Darnell, Erick Gunio, Jacob Wendt, Jim Harbison, Gordon Dietz, Chris Lederhouse, and Tyler Strassburg.
