RECORD CAR COUNT AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY AS
DANNY JOHNSON CLAIMS THE WIN IN ALEX FRIESEN
SUMMER NATIONALS; PEMBLETON, LONNEVILLE, CHILDROSE,
AND WAGNER ALSO CAPTURE WINS
Friday, July 31, 2009 – Ransomville, NY –
Despite early evening showers, Ransomville Speedway
management forged on and completed the 25th
anniversary of the Alex Friesen Summer Nationals.
The Super DIRTcar 358 Modified Series=2 0drew some
forty-two cars while an additional eighty-two cars
made up the three weekly divisions. The grand total
of one hundred and twenty-four cars jammed the pit
area putting on a show fans won’t soon forget.
Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY took the victory
aboard the one hundred lap 25th Alex
Friesen Summer Nationals. Johnson took the lead at
the drop of the green and maintained it through the
half way point. Dale Planck led the next thirty
circuits prior to Johnson finding some bite on the
topside. Johnson was able to make the pass on Planck
with twenty circuits remaining enroute to the $4000
win. Planck, Pete Bicknell, Chad Brachmann, and Todd
Burley rounded out the top five.
Johnson and Bicknell led the field to the green
with Johnson in command. Bicknell ran a strong
second followed by Planck, Burley, and Larry Lampman
Jr. The field ran clean through lap thirty-one
prior to the first caution flying for James Friesen
who lost a motor on the front stretch. Johnson mai
ntained the top spot on the restart as Planck
advanced to second. Planck continued his charge to
the front as he took over the top spot from
Johnson. Just when it appeared as though Planck was
on his way to victory – Johnson found something on
the track to his liking. Johnson challenged Planck
with approximately twenty laps remaining using the
Johnson lane (frontstretch moat). Johnson was able
to make the move work and take over the top spot.
Johnson maintained the lead position through the
final laps and take a very popular victory aboard
the Dave Thompson owned #fx1.
Sandy Pembleton of Lewiston, NY took top honors
for the first time in 2009 aboard the Original Pizza
Logs twenty lap feature main. Pembleton took the
lead away from Mike Williams on lap two and held off
persistent challenges by Nate Reynolds in the final
laps. Pembleton took the win aboard his Smokin Joes
sponsored #28w. Reynolds, Steve Miller, Jess
Cotriss, and Williams rounded out the top five.
Brian Lonneville of Sanborn, NY became the
sixteenth different winner aboard the Ki-Po
Chevrolet Streetstock division for 2009. Lonneville
took control at the drop of the green and maintained
it the entire distance aboard his Tri Town Auto
sponsored #12 entry. Webb Nashwinter, Don
Rappleyea, Andrew Smith, and Billy Coleman rounded
out the top five.
Mike Childrose of Niagara Falls, NY took top
honors for the second tine in 2009 aboard his #18
machine. Childrose took the lead at the drop of the
green and maintained it through lap twelve. Ricky
Washburn applied heavy pressure through the final
five laps but had to settle for second at the line.
Kenny Washburn, Gerald Poole, and Chris Dowling
rounded out the top five.
Derek Wagner took the win aboard the Flexcare 4
Bangers ten lap main. Wagner took the lead early on
and held off challenges by Daryl Haag for the win.
Two red flags slowed the main as Eugene Washburn
ended up flipping on the backstretch on lap two. And
0Matt Jenks made hard contact with turn four of lap
four. A special THANKS from the Friesen family and
staff at Ransomville Speedway goes out to Mike Pahl
for the graphics on his car. Mike lettered his car
specially for the Summer Nationals making his number
25th and applying Alex Friesen Summer
Nationals to the drivers door.
