Ransomville, NY – Friday, May 08, 2009 – Bright blue skies
greeted race fans last Friday as Ransomville Speedway,
Johnston’s Restaurant, and WJJL 1440 presented the 52nd season
opener. It was a week late thanks to mother nature however it
was not to be denied this time! One hundred cars filled the pit
area and supplied great side by side racing action for the
packed grandstands.
What a race! Todd Burley and Pete Bicknell put on a whale of a
show for the two thousand fans in the grandstands. It was edge
of your seat racing, don’t blink cause you will miss it!
Bicknell led the early going while Burley made his way to the
front. Burley continued to challenge Bicknell on the bottom
while Bicknell maintained the advantage on top. Bicknell chose
to take away Burley’s lane on lap eighteen much to the delight
of Burley as he took to the highside taking over the top spot.
Burley went on to win followed by Bicknell, Robbie Krull, Rich
Vinson, and Chad Brachmann.
Bill Torissi gave everyone a reason to pause on lap eighteen as
his throttle stuck as he entered turn three. Torissi came to
rest off the racing surface amongst trees after taking out a
section of guardrail. The seventy-four year old emerged shaken
but ok….his racer remained in place until after the final
checkered as it required some intricate maneuvering in order to
be dislodged.

Ryan Susice of Ransomville, NY took top honors aboard the
Original Pizza Logs Sportsman twenty-five lap main. Susice
enjoyed a front row starting position after setting fast time at
the annual test, tune, and time on April 24th. Susice led the
entire distance aboard his #38k machine. Jipp Ortiz, Don
Spatorico, Steve Schumacher, and Justin Wright rounded out the
top five.

Ricky Washburn of Ransomville, NY collected the first feature
main of the 2009 season aboard the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock
feature. Washburn took the lead at the drop of the green and
held it the entire distance despite smoke billowing from the
backend of his racer. Jaren Israel, Roger Israel, Chris Burek,
and Jon Richael rounded out the top five.

Scott Krull topped the field aboard the second fifteen lap Ki-Po
Chevrolet Streetstock main event. Krull used a move to the
inside of Mike Greenawalt on lap five to take over the top spot
and never looked back. Greenawalt was able to keep Krull in his
sights but it was all for naught as Krull took home the feature
win. Greenawalt, Brian Lonneville, Derrick Borkenhagen, and Pat
Dell rounded out the top five.

Jamie O’Donnell took top honors in the Bobcat of Buffalo
Firehall Enduro Series. O’Donnell out-battled fellow Wilson
Firehall member Mark Brown for the win in the twelve lap main.
